Audi is slowing down the rollout of its electric models to avoid burdening factories and dealerships at a time when EV sales growth is slowing, Bloomberg reports.

According to the report, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner said in an interview, “Our first consideration was the sequence and density of launches that the organisation could afford. In the end, we decided to spread it out so as not to overwhelm the team and dealers.” Audi reportedly plans to launch 20 models by 2026, half of which will be purely electric.
The Audi Q6 e-tron, which has been delayed several times due to problems with VW Group’s software division CARIAD, is expected to roll off the production line in the second quarter of next year, when the brand kicks off a new car offensive. Audi will also launch another electric model and two internal combustion engine models next year, with a third internal combustion engine model planned for 2025.
Döllner said, “The advantages of electric vehicles are gradually being seen by consumers. With these three models – the new electric vehicle, the new generation of plug-in hybrids and the combustion-engine model – we are positioned to be robust and flexible in the transition phase.”
According to Bloomberg, VW Group executives gathered in Berlin this week to discuss how the underperforming VW brand can realise more profits and how to stop its decline in China.
In order to achieve better growth in China, Audi and SAIC agreed in July this year to accelerate electric vehicle development through cooperation. SAIC officials said at the time that the two sides agreed that the Chinese auto market is undergoing an unprecedented and huge transformation, so they will further deepen their strategic cooperation to provide a win-win situation.
Döllner noted, “Currently, we are still an important player in the field of internal combustion engines. Our task together with our partners is to make the Audi brand an important player in the field of electromobility as well.”
