According to foreign media reports, Ford will recall over 200 F-150 Lightning pickup trucks in the United States because the fixing nuts on the vehicle’s high-voltage battery may be loose or missing, increasing the risk of fire.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a recall notice last month, and as many as 216 F-150 Lightning pickup trucks are affected. The affected vehicles were manufactured between Oct. 31, 2022, and Aug. 2, 2023, and may have one or more retaining nuts missing or loose on the vehicle’s high-voltage battery junction box bus bar, which could result in arcing and increase the risk of fire, the report said.
NHTSA wrote in the defect notice, “In addition, a ‘Stop Safely Now’ warning message may appear on the instrument panel, followed by a loss of vehicle power, which could increase the risk of a crash.

The report also states that the problem is caused by one or more retaining nuts on the high-voltage battery junction box busbar that may have been incorrectly removed during rework operations. Although the recall could affect as many as 216 F-150 Lightning vehicles, the defect is estimated to be present in only 20 percent of the vehicles.
To address the problem, owners will need to take affected vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the nuts on the high-voltage battery junction box busbar inspected for looseness or loss. NHTSA’s report indicates that Ford notified dealers on Feb. 26, 2024, and sent out an owner notification letter on March 18, 2024.The NHTSA report also indicates that Ford will notify dealers of the problem.
