According to foreign media reports, Ford Motor reported that its sales in the United States increased by 10.5% year-on-year compared to February 2023, mainly due to the growth in sales of its hybrid and pure electric vehicles.

Ford said it sold 174,192 cars and trucks in the U.S. in February. Of those, electric vehicle sales jumped 81 %, and hybrid model sales were up about 32 %. Sales of traditional internal combustion models also edged up, rising 7.5 % from a year ago.

The surge in hybrid sales is part of Ford’s plan to increase investment in the technology. The company said hybrid sales totaled 12,045 units in February, including 6,463 small Maverick hybrid pickups.

In addition, Ford reported that sales for the year through February totaled 311,325 units, up 6.6 % from the same period last year.

Currently, Ford EV sales fluctuate from month to month with demand and pricing. Last month, sales of Ford’s all-electric models generally rose, including a 64.3 % increase in Mustang Mach-E crossover sales and a near doubling of sales of the all-electric F-150 Lightning pickup truck.

Despite the increase in hybrid and EV sales, 89.5 % of Ford’s sales last month still came from conventional cars and trucks.

Sales of Ford’s most profitable F-Series pickup trucks fell 5.8 % last month to 51.829 units due to undisclosed quality issues. Shipments of the new 2024 model have been delayed due to quality issues, Automotive News reported last month. Amid the quality and warranty issues, Ford CEO Jim Farley implemented stricter testing and quality checks at the launch of the new vehicle.

Subsequently, Ford’s shares rose more than 4% in morning trading on March 4, local time. Its rivals General Motors (General Motors) and Stellantis have not announced monthly U.S. sales, but shares rose about 1% each.
