According to the Israel Automobile Importers Association, the total number of vehicles sold in Israel in 2023 was 270,023, a slight increase of 0.7% compared to the previous year. Of these, 4,738 new vehicles were sold in December. Israeli car sales fell in the second half of the year due to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
However, sales of electric vehicles performed particularly well, accounting for approximately 17.9% of total new vehicle sales in Israel. The data shows that a total of 48,219 new electric vehicles were sold in Israel in 2023, an increase of 75% compared to 27,671 in 2022. Chinese automakers BYD and Geely lead the Israeli electric car market.

BYD sold a total of 15,145 electric vehicles, securing the top spot on the list of electric vehicle sales in Israel in 2023. Of these, 14,244 units of the ATTO 3 model were sold, an increase of 308.2% compared to 3,710 units the year before. Geely came in second in the Israeli electric vehicles sales chart with 7,219 Geometry C electric vehicles delivered.
BYD’s and Geely’s sales in the Israeli market emphasize the growing popularity of Chinese electric vehicles brands in the Israeli market.
In addition, Tesla was third with 6,767 electric vehicles sold, while Hyundai and SAIC MG were fourth and fifth with 4,424 and 2,760 electric vehicles sold, respectively.
In January of this year, the Israeli government raised the tax rate on the purchase of electric cars, from 20% to 35%. At the same time, the cap on tax exemptions was lowered from 60,000 shekels to 50,000 shekels. This tax rate adjustment is expected to directly lead to price increases for BYD, Geely and Tesla electric cars.
