According to foreign media reports, on December 30, the American electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid said on social media X that it has officially begun to deliver the long-awaited electric Gravity SUV. These are the first models Lucid has delivered since launching its first pre-production version of the Gravity SUV in July.

Last month, Lucid also launched an online subscription service for its Gravity electric vehicle, with different versions of the Gravity SUV priced from $94,900 to $126,500. The Lucid Gravity SUV is only available in a Grand Touring version and has an EPA rated range of 450 miles. A more affordable version of the Lucid Gravity SUV is scheduled to go on sale late next year, starting at $79,900.

The Lucid Gravity SUV is also Lucid’s second model to go into production, following the release of its luxury Air sedan in 2021. Notably, the Lucid Gravity SUV will also include an integrated Tesla NACS charging port, making it the second non-Tesla vehicle after the Hyundai IONIQ 5 to feature Tesla-specific hardware.

Observers spotted the Lucid Gravity SUV undergoing driving tests in South Korea in February, though CEO Peter Rawlinson didn’t reveal when the company planned to launch the electric vehicle until this summer. Production of the Lucid Gravity SUV will begin at the end of this year.

Back in January, Lucid began expanding its Arizona plant to include a new general assembly line, a larger powertrain facility and multiple other new facilities to produce the Lucid Gravity SUV. Earlier this month, Lucid officially began production of the Gravity SUV at its factory in Casa Grande, Arizona.

The delivery of the Gravity SUV is a crucial milestone for Lucid, as Lucid hopes the Gravity SUV will be more successful than the company’s only current model, the Air sedan. Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson has said Gravity’s potential market size will be six times larger than the Air’s because U.S. consumers prefer crossovers over sedans.

Sales of the Lucid Air have been much slower than Lucid initially predicted. While sales have grown over the past few quarters, the company has been seeking more funding from its majority shareholder, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), to ensure Lucid can stay afloat during Gravity’s first year of production and delivery.
