According to Reuters on January 8th, Mercedes Benz unveiled a new virtual assistant at the CES Electronics Show that can provide context based advice and engage in conversations with users. This marks further development in the application of artificial intelligence in automobiles.
According to the company, the new voice assistant features a diverse range of tones, can express a wide range of emotions, and is able to ask intelligent questions to gain a clearer understanding of what the user is asking about.

“Your car will become your conversation partner. You can ask questions, have conversations and be more productive,” Markus Schaefer, Mercedes’ chief technology officer, said at a media Round Table in Las Vegas.
He said the assistant will be available in cars including the new CLA Concept, a smaller, all-electric four-door model that will be unveiled at CES.
Because electric vehicle hardware is less complex and less variable than internal combustion engine vehicles, many automakers want to stand out with their software offerings. From the use of personalized avatars to generative AI technology, in-vehicle voice assistant technology is becoming more complex.
Mercedes Benz stated that a new feature of its new voice assistant is to conduct a credibility check on the replies it provides.It will check recommendations via cloud-based data and self-reporting from customers, such as when a restaurant or store recommended by the assistant is closed.
Schaefer said, “We think that if we install something in the car, we have an obligation to convince you of that information.”
