According to the foreign media, the cooperation between Porsche and ClearMotion validate the active suspension technology and road-reading software from this U.S company. They also signed a technology licensing agreement.
Chief Technology Officer Zack Anderson of ClearMotion declined to say which Porsche models will use its technology, but he said it could be used on any electric or internal combustion engine model without the need for automakers to redesign their vehicles.
Ingo Albers, Porsche’s vice president of Drive Systems, said in a statement on April 9, “Vehicle motion is the next frontier in delivering exceptional experiences for drivers and passengers. This collaboration is intended to lay the groundwork for evaluating a closer and long-term collaboration with ClearMotion.”

ClearMotion uses a combination of hardware – a small unit containing motors and power electronics is installed in each wheel well of the car – and software to read the road ahead. The company also claims that the suspension system reduces turbulence in the car by about 75 per cent compared to the best available technology.
In addition, ClearMotion will work with Porsche to validate its “road fingerprint recognition software”. The software can collect road data and upload it to the cloud and then stream the data back to the car to help the car avoid obstacles such as potholes.
“Porsche is really excited about their ability to show superior performance without sacrificing comfort,” Anderson said. He revealed that ClearMotion will also announce partnerships with a number of other automakers in the coming months.
ClearMotion is also providing technology for NIo’s upcoming ET9 sedan with a contract covering the entire life cycle of the model.
