According to foreign media reports, Skoda said it will release an entry-level electric car called Epiq next year.

The Epiq is one of four budget electric cars planned for the Volkswagen Group’s Volkswagen, Skoda and Cupra brands, and is designed to take on Chinese brands such as BYD and MG, as well as low-cost electric cars launched in the European market by European rivals such as Citroen and Fiat. The batteries used in all four cars will come from Volkswagen’s new battery plant in Valencia, Spain.

The Epiq will be produced at the Volkswagen Group’s plant in Pamplona, Spain. The model will use a front-wheel-drive short-axle version of Volkswagen’s MEB electric platform.

On March 15, Skoda CEO Klaus Volmer revealed at the brand’s annual media conference that the starting price of the new car is 25,000 euros. Skoda positions the new car as an affordable family electric car. The Epiq has a larger interior space. The company said the total storage space in the car will be up to 490 liters. The new car has a cruising range of 400 kilometers.

The Epiq’s front face adopts Skoda’s new “Tech-Deck Face” design, with a row of eight vertical openings in the lower part of the grille, and the same design is used at the rear. The two openings on the outside are finished in orange, as are the roof racks and wheels.

Inside the Epiq, there’s an open storage compartment in the free-floating center console, which also houses a wireless phone charger. A large touch screen is installed in the car, with a shelf-type storage space underneath, while the screen facing the driver is smaller. Epiq may be equipped with the same 12.9-inch touch screen as the Volkswagen ID2all concept car released last year.

The Epiq will compete in the market with established small all-electric SUVs such as the Hyundai Kona and Opel/Vauxhall Mokka-e, as well as upcoming new products such as the Renault 4 and the new all-electric Fiat Panda.
