Toyota’s newest Camry, which has been the best-selling sedan in the United States for the past 22 years, inherits many of the features of its older model, but with one important difference: it no longer offers a pure gasoline engine version.
Toyota said on April 18 that the new Camry, which will arrive at U.S. dealerships this spring, will change its V6 engine in favor of a four-cylinder engine with an electric motor. The total gasoline consumption will be 51miles per gallon and that is less than the previous hybrid version but well above the pure gasoline version (32miles per gallon).

While overall demand for passenger car has declined in recent years as more customers have turned to SUV and truck, Toyota has had success with sedans like the Camry and small Corolla. Toyota sold 290,649 Camrys in the United States last year, which just less than the RAV4, but only 35,445 of those were hybrids. To sum up, hybrids account for about 29 percent of Toyota’s 2023 U.S. sales.
Mark DeJongh, chief engineer for the new Camry, expects the demand of the new model will remain strong. “It’s not only a great hybrid, it’s also a good car, and it happens to have a hybrid system. “
The 2025 Camry starts at $28,400, which is $1,980 more than the current pure gasoline model but about $400 less than the hybrid version currently on sale.
