According to foreign media reports, Volkswagen Group and Israeli technology supplier Mobileye are “strengthening” cooperation in the field of autonomous driving. The two companies said they are working together to bring driver assistance features that rely on Mobileye technology to Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini and Porsche vehicles.

Separately, a Volkswagen spokesman said the company will use Mobileye’s autonomous driving system in its commercial vehicles, including its fleet of self-driving taxis based on the Volkswagen ID Buzz electric vehicle. However, although Volkswagen intends to “quickly launch” new high-end driving functions, the company also said that the new system will be “progressively implemented” and did not disclose the specific time when the system will be put into mass production.
It is reported that Volkswagen will use Mobileve’s driving assistance software based on the SuperVision and Chauffeur platforms, and these technologies will later be integrated by Cariad, Volkswagen’s software division. Includes motorway and city driving assistance systems such as automated overtaking on multi-lane motorways, automated parking at red lights and stop signs, as well as driving support at intersections and roundabouts.
Volkswagen CEO 0liver Blume said: “The new autonomous driving functions will greatly improve the convenience and safety of driving.”
While Volkswagen is currently working to integrate Mobileye’s assisted and autonomous driving technologies, the company reiterated its plans to develop autonomous driving systems in-house in the more distant future. “In the long term, the group will rely on its own complete internal ‘stack’ to enable autonomous driving across all its brands. “
However, analysts are sceptical that Volkswagen’s long-term plans will come to fruition. According to a Baird research report, VW’s partnership announcement with Mobileye represents “a clear endorsement of Mobileye’s strong cost-value proposition”
