On December 19, the U.S. subsidiary of Volkswagen Group stated that starting from 2025, electric vehicle products of Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche in North America will be equipped with Tesla charging ports, allowing access to Tesla’s Super Charging Network . In 2024 and 2025, the above three German brands will launch rounds of electric vehicle offensives.
In addition, Volkswagen Group’s electric vehicle startup Scout Motors also plans to use Tesla’s charging standard. production of Scout’s upcoming SUVs and pickup trucks is expected to begin around the end of 2026, with sales to follow. The Volkswagen Group brands mentioned above also said that they are also exploring adapter options for electric vehicles with Combined Charging System (CCS) charging ports to access Tesla’s network.
Volkswagen said the move will provide customers with more than 15,000 Superchargers, as well as approximately 3,800 charging points in Electrify America and Electrify Canada. In June this year, Electrify America, a charging company controlled by the Volkswagen Group, said that it would provide NACS connectors in the United States and Canada by 2025.
Before Volkswagen Group, Ford, General Motors, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia and Toyota have all announced the adoption of Tesla’s charging standard. Rebecca Tinucci, Tesla’s senior director of charging infrastructure, said in a statement, “Today, after Volkswagen Group’s announcement of Tesla’s charging standard, nearly every major automaker has joined. Together, we will work to improve the charging experience for all electric vehicle owners.”
