According to foreign media reports, the Volkswagen brand will release the new T-Roc small SUV next year, but the company will not update the cabriolet version of the model (T-Roc Cabriolet) by then.
With the cancellation of the T-Roc Cabriolet, it will allow the Volkswagen brand to further reduce the number of soft-top models in the European market. The current T-Roc was released in 2017, with the soft-top cabriolet version due in 2020.
Volkswagen will release the new T-Roc next year, and the new model will use the MBQ Evo platform. In addition to the T-Roc, the new Golf, Passat and Tiguan will also use this platform.

Building the new T-Roc on the MQB Evo platform will allow Volkswagen to add some new technology to the model, such as adding a plug-in hybrid version and an adaptive suspension system.
The new model will feature a touchscreen display measuring 12.9 inches, and Volkswagen is expected to replace the physical control buttons for features like heated seats with digital buttons.
Speaking to reporters at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, Volkswagen’s head of brand research and development, Kai Grunitz, said the new T-Roc will be the brand’s last internal combustion engine model.
Figures released by market analyst Dataforce show that the T-Roc was the third best-selling model in Europe during the first 11 months of 2023, with 191,015 cumulative registrations.
Over the same period, the cabriolet Tango registered 11,693 units, making it the second best-selling cabriolet model in Europe behind BMW’s Mini Cabriolet. Grunitz said, “Only a small percentage of consumers opted for the cabriolet version.”
